6 Simple Reasons For Keeping A High Credit Rating

FACT - LOANS AND CREDIT ARE A NECESSARY PART OF LIFE AND WEALTH BUILDING! Society is becoming increasingly dependent on credit to make purchases and financial decisions. A good credit score is used for more than just getting a credit card or a loan. Credit scores demonstrate your history of paying your debts to entities that loan you money. “Having access to credit can also be helpful in an emergency,” explains Benjamin Jacobs, a certified financial planner at Elwood & Goetz in Athens, Georgia. Insurance companies can run credit checks before offering quotes. Those with better credit can secure better rates.

1. Credit Will Determine Where You Live

Credit can determine if you will rent or own. Before you can buy a house, mortgage lenders will pre-approve you and if you have poor credit it's very possible you could be declined. It could be the difference between building equity for your family or for your landlord.

If you're approved for a mortgage, your credit affects your interest rate. Interest rates directly impact your monthly mortgage payment, by either increasing or decreasing the amount you are charged. The lower the interest rate actually allows you to afford more of a house, which can dictate your neighborhood, zip code, school district, and access to quality services.

Landlords will absolutely use your credit to decide whether to rent to you. Property rental is considered to be a loan, and owners want to be sure they will be paid.

2. Vehicles Can Be Expensive and they Depreciate in Value

Most people finance or lease cars and credit plays a HUGE factor in you getting approved and your monthly payment. These payments can typically last anywhere from 3 to 6 years. The better your credit, the better the rate, the better the car. One thing you don't want to do is pay a high interest rate on an item that depreciates monthly.

3. Check Your Credit For Employment

Many employers will check your credit as part of the hiring process. (Note that employers check credit reports, not credit scores. Some jurisdictions prohibit prospective employers from using applicants’ credit reports). If a potential employee has low scores or carrying a lot of debt a prospective employer might be hesitant to hire you. If you have a history of not being financially responsible, you may run into problems finding work.

Some employers also check credit reports before giving a promotion or raise, especially for financially-related or executive positions.

4. Credit is Key -Every Business needs Access to Capital

If you ever had a dream of starting your own business, please be aware that business startups require a sizable amount of cash. You may need to obtain a small business loan and obtain three or four credit cards with high limits. Your personal credit will play a major role in securing these funds and your future.

5. Good Credit Keeps You Gas'd Up

It may be shocking to learn that in many places your credit is needed to establish utility services. Before turning on your gas, the company will check to see if you have good credit. Most utility services conduct credit checks, including electricity, cable, telephone, water, even cell phone service providers. Millions of Americans have collection accounts on their credit reports from these institutions. We can assist in removing these accounts.

6. Don't Let Poor Credit Keep You From Living Your Best Life

Since your credit is defined by how you’ve paid (or not paid) your bills in the past, many businesses—landlords, mortgage lenders, utility providers, and even employers use your credit to predict your future financial responsibility. Anytime you need to borrow money, finance an essential item, or set up services, your history of paying bills (your credit) is called into question.
